Celebrating 40 Years of Excellence: HSM-40 “Airwolves”
For four decades, Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron Forty (HSM-40), proudly known as the Airwolves, has been a cornerstone of rotary-wing maritime excellence for the United States Navy. Now operating under the Department of War (DOW), their legacy of service and skill continues stronger than ever.
Commissioned in 1985, HSM-40 serves as the Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) for the MH-60R Seahawk helicopter. The command is responsible for training and qualifying the Navy’s next generation of pilots and aircrew to operate the world’s most advanced multi-mission helicopter. Their mission supports anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare (ASuW), search and rescue (SAR), and maritime security operations across the globe.
Stationed at Naval Station Mayport, Florida, HSM-40 ensures that every crew member who passes through their doors leaves mission-ready, capable, and confident to meet the complex challenges of modern naval warfare. Their professionalism, technical expertise, and commitment to excellence directly support global security, freedom of navigation, and the protection of allied interests worldwide.
As the Airwolves celebrate their 40th Anniversary (1985–2025), we honor the men and women, past and present, who have worn the HSM-40 patch with pride. Their dedication, sacrifice, and relentless pursuit of excellence have set the standard for what it means to serve.
Command Emblematic Sales by Eccentriq was proud to partner with the command to design and produce commemorative 40th Anniversary patches and apparel, marking this historic milestone in true Airwolves fashion. Each piece reflects the squadron’s enduring legacy, fighting spirit, and commitment to “Forty Years of Excellence.”

From everyone at Eccentriq, thank you to the Airwolves of HSM-40 for your unwavering service, leadership in the skies, and continued defense of our nation’s freedom.
Congratulations on 40 years of proud heritage, and here’s to many more.
